Moon Over Harlem Twilight Series began in 2011 with just a handful of boats. Since then, it's grown into the biggest event on Eastchester Bay.
There has always been good racing on Eastchester Bay, but the trend was towards high-tech, high-stakes, high-level events. We saw a need for a laid-back Friday evening race with an après-racing party to kick-off the weekend.
What we're trying to do here is just get people out sailing on a Friday evening. It's nice to win, but this regatta is less about winning and more about having a good time on the water. If you can go out, have a good time and you happen to get around the racecourse faster than the other boats, that's an added bonus. When the race is over, come back to the club and enjoy some live music, good food and excellent company. That's really what the event is all about.
We start and finish in Eastchester Bay so you don't have very far to sail to get back to the club. Two divisions: both non-spinnaker. Short, simple courses. The idea is to fun out on the water, then come back to the club for dinner and drinks.
This is a low-key event. It's not about winning at any cost, it's about getting your boat off the mooring and enjoying yourself at the start of a lazy summer weekend.
