Rendezvous at Oyster Bay, July 11-12

HYC boats will rendezvous in Oyster Bay on Saturday, July 11 to Sunday, July 12.

Skippers can sail their own boats. Other members can hitch a boat-ride or come overland by car to Oyster Bay. To hitch a ride, reach out to a skipper you know. For example, a new social member is sailing with Fleet Captain Roger Karlebach on the boat ILENE, and he and the human Ilene have room for one more. We'll add info about who is open to passengers here.

Here are the basics:

  • Boats enter Oyster Bay southbound and sail westward around Centre Island clockwise, staying well off. (Use your charts for soundings and nav aids, and NOT these screenshots.) There is a huge anchorage (circled in red in the first image) just west of Cove Neck and a good mooring field at the Sagamore Yacht Club (circled in blue).

  • Overlanders, head for the Sagamore Yacht Club and call the Fleet Captain (email him at Krogerk1965@gmail.com well in advance, and he'll send you his cell phone number).

  • Skippers, the Sagamore YC offers moorings at $75 per night. Reserve a mooring at Sagamoreyc.org or call.516-922-0555 Their launch (Ch 78, dock circled in yellow) operates until 11 pm on Saturdays.

  • For skippers electing to anchor, the Sagamore’s dinghy dock will accommodate our of our tenders.

  • All, there will be a reception aboard ILENE about 5 p.m., followed by

  • Dinner ashore for everyone. Options are the Sagamore's restaurant or perhaps finer dining in Oyster Bay (let Roger know if you have a favorite dining spot) or a cook-out on land (Roger is researching the options). Remember,, land-bound members will have the option of joining us for dinner, and some boats may offer a berth for the night..

Please let Roger know ASAP is you plan on going. His email is Krogerk1965@gmail.com. Comments, suggestions and questions are welcome. In your response, please include:

  • Your name and boat name (if the latter is appropriate)

  • That you plan to attend

  • How many you are likely to have on board

  • Whether you are willing to carry additional volunteers (and if so, how many),

  • A cell number at which you can be reached before and during the cruise

  • Whether you plan to anchor out or moor at Sagamore YC

  • Whether you will have a dinghy for ship-visiting and transportation to shore for dinner.

Here's the layout:
