Harlem Yacht Club Launches Big Tom City Island Cup 2020

In beautiful summer conditions, Harlem Yacht Club launched the Big Tom City Island Cup and kicked off this unusual racing season on the Long Island Sound. To facilitate social distancing, all boats elected to sail non-spinnaker with limited crew. To that end, we forewent a skippers’ meeting and there were no aprés race festivities. Still, it was a fun day of racing.

We had sixteen boats in two divisions for two challenging races. Walter Ziobro’s Contessa 33 Shearwater took the City Island Cup followed by Todd Aven in his brand new J-99 Thin Man. The Harlem Cup goes to Bruce Joseph’s Colgate 26, On The Beam, with Roy Smith and Ellen Murphy’s J-24, Panic Attack, as the runner up. Thank you to HYC Race Chair, Matt Stainback, and his committee for organizing.

From our end, we really enjoyed being Race Committee for this memorable regatta.
