ILENE’S “Wrong Way” Cruise

Almost all Harlem cruises go NE, out into L.I. Sound toward New England. For this one we pointed ILENE SW into NY Harbor, Brooklyn, Staten Island and the North coast of New Jersey.

Day 1 - HYC to Gravesend Bay, Brooklyn. The bay is huge, room for a hundred boats to anchor (as long as a strong SW is not blowing. But we were the only boat anchored there so lots of snubbed chain between the boat and its anchor. I wanted to go ashore and explore the neighborhood but the marina which permits dink docking was not answering phone, texts or emails.

Day 2 - To the Richmond County YC in Great Kills Cove, Staten Island. Large, friendly and completely rebuilt after Sandy destroyed it. We dined with young friends who we had last seen at their wedding four summers ago. They live near the YC.
