Labor Day Rendezvous

Eleven of us from the five participating Harlem boats are enjoying a delicious pot luck predinner feast on a mooring of Seacliff Yacht Club in Mahassett Bay. This was before the launch took us all deeply into Mosquito Cove for a short walk up a long dock to a Texas barbecue joint for…well… more food!

Clockwise from the left: from “Folly”: Lucille and Christine, from “Lucky”: Vesna and Lee, from “ILENE”: Marcia, Margie and Roger, from “Lotus”: Lawrence and AnnMarie and from “Miraval”: Huck and Cynthia.
In July our Rendezvous visited only one port, for a single night — Oyster Bay. This time we voyaged farther from home, to Huntington Harbor and stayed two nights — first at the elegant Huntington Y.C. and next at the beachfront Seacliff YC, each with its swimming pool. The wind was not strong, except during our night at Seacliff, when our boats were exposed to NW winds that fetched from New Rochelle, causing our boats to pitch, as they do in SW winds atThe Harlem. But each day we were able to use wind power almost all the way for all
three passages.
And we broke bread with Harlemites who we had known only by sight, but got to know — to turn strangers into friends.
